I find these branches – near ready to burst into bloom – a form of visual poetry. Few words are necessary or desirable.

This image, which is new, represents “transition” to me in a couple of ways. For one thing, it was shot in nature at just that time winter transitions into spring. It also depicts, to me, the sense of  energy and turmoil often associated with transitions of many kinds. Click image for larger.

“Trees in Winter (Thick)” won a first place award in the annual Silvermine School of Photography show in NewCanaan which opened this weekend (25th Annual Juried Student Exhibition). (Click image for a full-size view.)

“Trees” is an image in the “Natural Impressions” series, abstract and semi-abstract post-impressionist images drawn from nature and created with post-capture digital manipulation. These images are intended to lead to different ways of seeing and appreciating the colors and textures of nature. Another early spring scene: The hillside providing the backdrop to a tree in the earliest stage of budding.

Perhaps it’s my imagination – a wishful thinking -, but I think you can tell in the texture of the bark on these tree limbs a yearning to break out in spring. A great time of year – The end of winter, the beginning of spring. (Click image for larger.)

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran
The budding twigs spread out their fan,
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.

Trees Late Winter/Early Spring

All images shot with the Fuji X100 with 23 mm fixed lens at ISO 400. Other data under each image. All copyright Joanne Mason 2015. Click any one for larger images. It may be presumptuous, or just jumping the gun a little, to call these “Spring Trees.” But I think there is something appealing about trees just as (in the moments!) they begin to bring out their spring buds and prepare for a new season.
