I suppose March qualifies as “late winter.” Almost everything is still covered with snow and in deep winter dormancy. I was struck by this tree, though. The finely filigreed lace-like branches look like they’re eagerly waiting for spring, ready to burst into growth at the first spring warmth. It’s a sign of hope and expectancy in the otherwise cold and still starkly naked landscape.
