The Phalaenopsis is often known as the “Moth Orchid.” As with many other recent images, I find the black-and-white treatment brings out elements of the texture completely overlooked in the color version. (Click for larger.)

Here is another of the orchid images I’ve been working on. Moth Orchid is a popular name for the Phalaenopsis Orchid – Yesterday’s White Orchid was also a Phalaenopsis. This is a small flower, much smaller than yesterday’s large and majestic white orchid. Comparing the raw image, the final jpg, and the actual flower suggests that this image is an accurate rendition of the flower. The petals and sepals have this almost crystalline appearance.

I am working on an orchid series. Words fail to describe to beauty, complexity, elegance, and daring of orchids. Orchids define at one and the same time shyness and chutzpah in the flower world.
