This is the Church of San Jose de Gracia in Las Trampas, NM. One of the loveliest drives in the American southwest is the rugged and wild High Road to Taos which traverses the Sangre de Cristo mountains from Santa Fe to Taos. The Church of San Jose is in the village of Las Trampas along the High Road. It is one of the finest examples of Spanish colonial church architecture in New Mexico. Las Trampas was founded in 1751 and the church, now a National Landmark and well maintained by the village, completed in 1776. Ansel Adams shot a famous picture of the church of San Jose, and Georgia O’Keeffe painted it.
